Cenote diving
For the ancient Mayans, the cenotes were the entrance to Xibalbá, the underworld. Today they are one of the most special diving experiences on the planet.
Cenotes form when the limestone roof collapses and exposes the groundwater. Many are connected by flooded tunnels, making the Riviera Maya a unique place to dive deep beneath the jungle.
Here you will find some of the most extensive flooded cave systems in the world. Under the water you will see stalactites and stalagmites, haloclines (the visible boundary where fresh water meets salt water) and light shows that will not be forgotten.
